FAQ

  • How do I know if therapy is right for me?
Therapy can be helpful to many folks, but it is not for everyone. The only way you will know if therapy is useful to you is to give it a try. Particularly if you are feeling like you have tried on your own, but struggled to experience the growth you desire, therapy can help you get out of a rut and start shifting painful patterns. I offer a free 30 minute consultation to give you a chance to try out therapy before committing to regular sessions.
  • What can I expect at the consultation appointment?
We will spend 30 minutes assessing whether this is a good fit. I will tell you about my background and how I typically work in therapy. I will ask you to give me a sense of what you are hoping to gain from therapy. I will answer any questions you have. We will sort out details like payment and scheduling. If it seems like a good fit, we will make plans to get started with regular therapy sessions.
  • How often would I come in for therapy?
I typically see individual clients once a week for a 50-55 minute therapy session. If you are in a period of particular distress or need additional support, we may increase to twice weekly. Once we have worked together for a while, we may decrease the frequency to every other week or monthly appointments.
  • How much does therapy cost?
My current rate is $160 for a regular 50-55 minute therapy session. I pro-rate longer sessions based on time spent. I am an in-network provider with Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO (not HMO). Using your BCBS PPO insurance often defrays the cost of sessions considerably. Contact me and I will check your insurance benefits.
  • Can I use my health insurance to pay for therapy?
I am an in-network provider with Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO (not HMO). Using your BCBS PPO insurance often defrays the cost of sessions considerably. Contact me and I will check your insurance benefits with BCBS. If you are interested in using any other insurance for therapy, I would recommend calling your insurance provider and ask about your out-of-network coverage for mental health services. You would pay our practice directly, and we would provide you with a statement of services. You can submit that statement to your insurance carrier for reimbursement.
  • I've never been in therapy before. I don't even know what questions to ask! Eek!
Seeking therapy is a courageous choice! I totally understand that starting therapy is daunting for some folks. It is completely normal to feel a bit overwhelmed and awkward at first. I will do my best to put you at ease and guide you into the therapeutic process. I'll try to anticipate some of the common issues or pitfalls that arise. We will work collaboratively to find what will work best for you.
